Evolution of Antalya starts with Pergamon King, Attalos II. He had a strong desire to build a world paradise in this spectacular place where Antalya is located today. For this purpose, the city was completely repaired and it was at first named as Attelia.
‘Capital’ of the Turkish Mediterranean Coast, is a sprawling modern city with a small, charming historic core, a good archaeology museum, a long sunny beach and dramatic sea and mountain views.
Antalya is known as the Turkish Riviera. With its palm-lined boulevard, internationally-acclaimed marina and old castle with traditional architecture, all set amidst a modern city, Antalya is a major tourist centre in Turkey. The historic core, called ‘Kaleiçi’ (or Old Antalya) surrounds the Roman harbour.
